There is something about apple pie and the smell it brings into the kitchen that always brings us back to childhood. These Puff Pastry Apple Rings are an easy alternative if you don’t want to make a whole pie, but they are just as delicious! The mix of melting apple caramelised in cinnamon and nutmeg flavors and wrapped inside a flaky crust makes this the perfect treat to try this fall.
Apple Puff Pastry Rings with three ingredients at their core
At the heart of these heavenly creations are three key ingredients that work their magic:
- Apple Slices: Begin with fresh, crisp apple slices that form the sweet and juicy core of each ring. They bring a lightly fruity flavor and the comforting texture once baked
- Puff pastry: The flaky, buttery crust wrapped around the apple slices gift a light and airy texture to these apple rings. We use store bought puff pastry, but you can make your own
- Sugar-Cinnamon-Nutmeg Mix: The secret to elevating these rings lies in this mix. A blend of sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg infuses the apples with warmth, spice, and sweetness. Together, these spices create a symphony of autumnal flavors that dance on your taste buds.
Can You Bake Apple Puff Pastry Rings in the Air Fryer?
Absolutely! Baking your pastries in an air fryer is a fantastic option. Preheat your air fryer to 190°C (375°F) and place the rings in a single layer in the basket, ensuring they don’t overlap. Air fry for about 10-12 minutes or until they turn beautifully golden and crisp. Remember to check them occasionally to avoid overcooking. Once they’re done, let them cool slightly, and then toss them again in that delightful sugar-cinnamon-nutmeg mixture for an extra layer of flavor.

Apple Puff Pastry Rings
Ingredients
- 2 medium to large apples (Golden, Granny Smith etc.), peeled, cored and cut into 1cm (½ inch) slices
- 1 Puff Pastry dough (about 230g / 0.5 lb), cut into 2 cm (1 inch) strips
Sugar mixture
- 10 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg
Egg wash
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp milk
Instructions
- Apples: Peel apples, slice them into 1 cm (½ inch) thick slices and remove the core. Combine sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg in a shallow bowl. Then coat each apple slice from both sides so it's covered in a thin layer of the mixture
- Dough: Cut the dough into 2 cm (1 inch) thick strips and wrap one strip at a time around the apple slide so they're fully covered. Place the wrapped apple rings on a baking tray
- Bake: For a golden shine, whisk together egg and milk, and brush over the dough. Bake the apple rings on 180° C (356° F) for 20-25 mins, until the dough is golden). While still hot, toss the rings again in the sugar mixture and let them cool for about 10 minutes before eating. Enjoy!
