Course: Side Dish, Snack
Cuisine: Indian
Servings: 6 Naans

Ingredients

  • 1 bag yeast (about 7g)
  • 100 ml water (lukewarm)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 300 g flour (plus some more to dust the surface)
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 150 g yoghurt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Garnish

  • butter, garlic and coriander

Instructions

  • Combine yeast, sugar and lukewarm water in a glass and stir until dissolved. Set aside for 5-10 minutes or until the top is foamy - this shows it's activated.
  • In the meantime, combine flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Then add yoghurt, olive oil and the activated yeast. Knead everything into a dough (by hand or electric mixer) until combined. The dough should be slightly sticky.
Grease a bowl, place the dough inside and cover it with a towel. Then let is rest for about 1 hr in a warm place. The dough should have roughly doubled in size.
Tip: Heat the oven to 50 degrees, turn it off and put the covered dough inside
  • Divide the dough into 6 parts. Use your fingers or a rolling pin to flatten into desired shape (typically oval or round). Each bread should be less than 1 cm thick as they puff up quite a bit when backing.
  • Heat a skillet to high heat. Bake one Naan bread at a time for 3-4 mins on each side.

Garnish

  • Melt 1-2 tsp of butter, add thinly chopped garlic and fresh coriander. Brush over the baked Naan bread.
